Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, the young autism advocate, has completed his awareness bicycle ride from Enugu to Lagos.

The ride tagged ‘Autism Awareness Ride‘ aimed at amplifying the voices of children living with autism across Nigeria and Africa ended on April 2 — which is also the World Autism day.

In a post via Instagram, the campaign organisers said Kanyeyachukwu’s feat showed that what many see as a limitation can become a powerful strength.

They added that his achievement also highlights autism as an “extraordinary ability”, celebrating individuals with it around the world.

“Happy World Autism Awareness Day! 800km later, the record is broken and the message is clear. What some call a limitation, we’ve turned into a history-making strength,” he wrote.

“From Enugu to Lagos, Kanye has proven that Autism is not a disability; it is an extraordinary ability. Happy World Autism Awareness Day to every extraordinary mind across the globe.”

Reacting to the feat, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos governor, lauded Kanyeyachukwu for completing the long-distance ride, describing it as a strong display of courage and determination.

He also announced a N200 million donation to support autism-focused organisations, including Kanyeyachukwu’s foundation, to strengthen advocacy and improve support for individuals and caregivers.

“Today, as we celebrated World Autism Awareness Day, I received Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke at Lagos House, Marina. Kanyeyachukwu, a young advocate, completed an endurance ride of 687 kilometres from Enugu to Lagos,” he wrote.

“His journey speaks to courage, resilience, and what is possible. He has shown that every child has real potential that deserves support and recognition.

“In honour of this, I pledged a total of N200 million to support autism-focused organisations under the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs and the Kanyeyachukwu Foundation.
