Nasiru Gawuna, former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano during 2023 elections, has resigned from the party.

In a resignation letter dated March 29, 2026, and addressed to the APC chairman in Gawuna ward, Nassarawa LGA, Gawuna said his decision to leave the party was voluntary and personal.

“I hereby formally resign my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective March 29, 2026,” the letter reads in part.

Gawuna, a former deputy governor of Kano, thanked the party for the opportunities he had during his time as a member.

He did not disclose his next political move.

Gawuna had earlier resigned his appointment as chairman of the board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN).

In a letter dated March 27 and addressed to the secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), Gawuna said his resignation is in compliance to the recent directive of President Bola Tinubu to political appointees.

Sources close to the former deputy governor said he is expected to meet Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano state, on Monday night at the latter’s residence on Miller road.

Kwankwaso, former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday.
