Abiodun ‘Papa Ajasco’ Ayoyinka
Abiodun Ayoyinka, the comic actor, has announced a rebrand, dropping the name ‘Papa Ajasco’.
In a video on his Instagram account, the actor announced that he is adopting a new performing name, ‘Bondu Alaska’.
The name change comes amid a series of disputes involving the trademark of the ‘Papa Ajasco’ brand.
Earlier this month, Ayoyinka revealed that he has been unable to commercially leverage the popular ‘Papa Ajasco’ character because the rights are trademarked by producer Wale Adenuga.
The veteran actor also revealed that life has been financially challenging for him in recent years.
However, in a statement a few days later, Adenuga said that while Ayoyinka cannot independently use the character for personal business ventures — to protect the brand — he is allowed to feature in advertisements with the approval of Wale Adenuga Productions (WAP).
Adenuga dismissed Ayoyinka’s claims as a “public show of comedy” and a distortion of facts, suggesting the actor is leveraging social media for income.
The producer then added that his relationship with the actor remains cordial despite the disputes.
Ayoyinka is best known for his role in Papa Ajasco & Company, a television series created by Wale Adenuga Productions (WAP).
The series is an offshoot of the 1984 film of the same name, directed by Wale Adenuga.
