Remilekun Oshodi, the ace Nollywood actress fondly called Remi Surutu, has declared her support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The veteran actress spoke at the launch of EKO57, a support group aimed at mobilising backing for the president’s second term.
She described the president and his family members as “good people,” while urging Nigerians, particularly Yoruba people, to be more supportive of one another.
Surutu also dismissed claims linking Tinubu to the rise in fuel prices, arguing that such decisions are influenced by global factors.
“They are extremely, very good people. They are good people. The wife, the husband, the children, they are good people. But the fact that we Yorubas don’t love ourselves, we condemn ourselves as much as is allowed. But if we can, for one day, relax and just think about it, look at what is happening all over the world. We are still enjoying ourselves,” she said.
“Like I fought with somebody who was saying… ‘Asiwaju caused the fuel hike.’ I said Asiwaju is not responsible for the rise in petrol prices. The price of the fuel is decided by some beings, by the world leaders; a hike in fuel has nothing to do with Tinubu.”
Surutu further revealed that she faced criticism over her support for Tinubu during the 2023 elections, including allegations linking him to the death of her child.
Reaffirming her loyalty, the actress said she remains committed to supporting Tinubu and will actively campaign for his re-election, adding that she would not be politically intimidated.
“A day before the election (in 2023), they said to me that it was Asiwaju that I was following, who killed my child. But I care less. I still went on the second day to go and vote. Your vote is your right. Don’t let anybody deceive you. Don’t let anybody scare you. When I met Tinubu, our father, he was doing well,” she added.
“If you think he has not done well, suggest a man in your family. Let that person come and govern for just one day. Then you will know what is going on. I have said it myself, I am not backing out. I am going to campaign for him and vote for him. And he has my vote, and I am voting for him.
“And if you see anybody out there trying to scare anybody, if you plan to kill me, you are going to kill yourself. Because when you are going on your straight line with your good hearts, nothing happens to you. There are so many anti-parties. When they want to take money, they will come, and I will be with you. They will leave, they will go to another place, I am with you.”
