Tolani Tayo-Osikoya, the Nigerian chef and food blogger popularly known as Chef T, has opened up about her journey to Islam.

Speaking during an interview on The Morayo Show, hosted by Morayo Afolabi-Brown, the celebrity chef revealed that she converted to Islam 10 years ago but only began practicing fully nine years ago.

She emphasised that her decision was not motivated by public approval or trends.

“I didn’t do it for clout, it was a personal decision I took 9 years ago,” she said.

Chef T explained that she prefers to keep her faith private and avoids social media theatrics around it.

“I give people hint, every Ramadan I am always doing Iftar series, you will always find me talking about Islam,” she said.

The food blogger also clarified that her conversion was not influenced by her husband’s family.

“It was never a religion where if you want to marry our son, this is what you will practice, we are Muslims, we want you to understand the religion and then make a decision for yourself, she said, also adding that It was a decision she embarked on by herself, for herself,” she said.

“I picked up the Quran by myself, I started to read it by myself and I knew it was time to publicly share it.”

Chef T recently took to her Instagram page to reflect on her spiritual journey.

“I am still a novice but I am definitely not where I started from. Allhamdulillahi,” she wrote.
