The Nigerian Navy Shipyard VICTORY says it has handed over two suspected military impersonators to the police’s criminal investigation department in Cross River.
The spokesman, Suleiman Bala, disclosed this in a statement in Calabar on Monday.
Mr Bala stated that the police apprehended the suspects on March 10 while they were wearing military camouflage and carrying fake military identification cards.
According to him, the preliminary investigation revealed that one suspect posed as a navy lieutenant, and the other as a midshipman.
“They claim to be serving on board the Nigerian Navy Ship SAGBAMA. Upon investigation, we recovered additional military-related items such as a jungle hat and a pair of boots,” he said.
The spokesman said that, during the investigation, the suspects admitted purchasing the camouflage vest, jungle hat, and boots, while they produced the identity cards.
“Today we are handing them over for investigation and possible prosecution; this exercise is in line with extant procedures,” he said.
