The police command in Nasarawa State says it has busted a kidnapper’s hideout and arrested one suspect in the Gidan Akuya village of the Keana Local Government Area (LGA) of the State.

The command’s police public relations officer (PPRO), SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this to journalists on Sunday in Lafia.

Mr Nansel said the breakthrough was part of the command’s fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.

The spokesperson said the operation was successful following credible intelligence.

“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) successfully busted the hideout of a notorious kidnapper at Gidan Akuya Village in Keana LGA,” he said.

He said that upon sighting the operatives, the criminals attempted to flee the scene but were immediately pursued by the police and one suspect was arrested in the process.

“A thorough search of the hideout led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one empty magazine and one locally fabricated rifle as exhibits,” he said.

The PPRO explained that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to participating in several kidnapping activities within the Keana and Awe axis of the state.

He disclosed that the suspect has provided useful information to assist ongoing investigations and to track down other fleeing members of the gang.

The spokesperson said the state commissioner of police (CP), Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, has directed operatives to intensify efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing members of the gang, and to ensure they are brought to justice.

On behalf of the CP, the PPRO commended operatives for their dedication and reassured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to combating crime and ensuring the security of lives and property in the state.
