In a snippet from a recent interview with New York Times Popcast, the rapper said his mother often encouraged him to pursue a relationship with Rihanna, even when he insisted they were just friends.
Rocky added that he initially brushed off her comments, believing Rihanna was not even interested in him romantically.
The rapper, however, admitted that his mother’s instincts were right, noting that the timing eventually worked in their favour.
“My mother used to say I know you like this girl that you are with right now (I am not going to say any names), but I want you with Riri. I used to be like ‘mum, why do you keep saying that? That girl does not even want me like that. Be cool, she is just my friend’,” he said.
“Mothers know best and I am thankful that she was put in my life at that time because I think anytime prior to that, I do not think I was ready for something like that.”
The couple’s journey began when their longtime friendship blossomed into a romance in late 2020.
In May 2022, they welcomed their first child, followed by their second child — Riot Rose — in August 2023.
Rocki Irish Mayers, their third child, was born in September 2025.
