Friends and colleagues of Esther ‘Sunshine’ Thomas are reaching out to the public, seeking financial support to lay the content creator to rest.
Sunshine died last week following a medical journey that began in late December 2025.
What was first thought to be a severe stomach ache was later diagnosed as a fibroid.
According to her friend, Chidera Madu, Sunshine was initially taken to Orchid General Hospital.
However, due to a nationwide doctors’ strike, she reportedly received only pain relief without a comprehensive diagnosis, necessitating a transfer to another facility on January 2 for proper treatment.
In a recent video, fellow content creator Dupe Noma clarified that Sunshine was diagnosed with a triad of conditions: an ulcer, a fibroid, and a kidney infection. She said after successful treatment for the ulcer and infection, she was discharged to prepare for fibroid removal surgery.
“The ulcer was being treated, the kidney infection was also being treated, and eventually she was discharged. And the doctor asked her to go and get resources ready and do a couple of scans so that she can have the fibroid removed,” she said.
“She did the surgery, and according to the doctor, the surgery was successful. They noticed that she wasn’t breathing properly, so they performed CPR on her, and they put her on oxygen, but eventually, she passed.
In the footage, Noma, together with friends Madu and Lucy Antem, revealed that Sunshine was an orphan with only one brother, who is financially unable to shoulder the burden.
“Now the situation at hand is for everyone who has come across Esther Thomas; she’s an orphan, she does not have any family members, she only has one brother, and as we speak, this brother is presently incapacitated,” Noma added.
“Some friends have gone to see the brother, and he confirmed that they do not have any family member, so the friends should go ahead and bury her.”
