Oluwaseyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and his wife, Layal, have been conferred with new chieftaincy titles in Lagos State.

The installation came just days after the couple received similar honours in Oyo State. Seyi was installed as the Okanlòmo of Eyọ Ọba Alakẹtẹ Pupa, Laba Ẹkun, while Layal received a complementary title during the ceremony.

The event was held on the eve of the Eyo Festival, scheduled for December 27 at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced the installation on Friday, Boxing Day, while receiving the couple at the Lagos House, Marina.

The governor described the honour as a recognition of service, character, and commitment to the culture and people of Lagos State.

“I warmly congratulate Barrister Oluwaseyi Tinubu on his installation as the Okanlòmo of Eyọ Ọba Alakẹtẹ Pupa, Laba Ẹkun,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“This honour reflects service, character, and commitment to our culture and people. I wish him continued strength and clarity as he carries the responsibilities and expectations that come with this new role.”

The Lagos chieftaincy titles came five days after Seyi and Layal were similarly honoured by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade.

On December 21, the couple were installed as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland and Yeye Okanlomo of Yorubaland, respectively, during a colourful ceremony at the Alaafin’s palace in Oyo.

At the Oyo event, the monarch praised Seyi Tinubu for his contributions to youth empowerment, social development, and the promotion of Yoruba cultural values.

In his response, Seyi expressed gratitude and humility, saying, “I accept this title with humility and a deep sense of responsibility to serve our people and promote peace and progress across Yorubaland.”

He added that he would continue to support initiatives focused on youth development, cultural preservation, and community unity.
