Innocent Michael Onyebuchi, the ace singer popularly known as Daddy Fresh, has pleaded for help, revealing a severe and prolonged health battle that has left him destitute and in critical condition.

The plea was shared via the Instagram page of filmmaker Kunle Afod, who recently located the musician.

Dressed in a blue sleeveless top, the singer lay in his bed, his gaze unfocused. When Afod entered, Daddy Fresh struggled to recognise him.

“Oba,” he murmured faintly.

“It’s Afod, Kunle Afod,” the actor clarified gently.

In the footage, Daddy Fresh began to explain his ordeal, revealing he has been confined to his bed for over two and a half years, a battle that has consumed all his finances.

“I started hallucinating, seeing people—those I know and those I don’t,” he confessed. “I talk directly to them, but other people no dey see them. This one don too much o.”

The singer outlined his deteriorating physical state, listing multiple organ failures and complications.

“The person taking care of me will show you the result of the tests: my kidney, my liver, neuropathy. My two eyes had issues; I had to operate on this one, and I cannot see with it again,” he said.

“Now, I need a blood transfusion. I need to buy some pints of blood. They said they need that one immediately, like two or three packs of blood, because my blood is very low, 25%. I will fall if I stand here now, except somebody holds me. See my face, my knees, wounds because of falling, like a child learning to walk.”

Daddy Fresh expressed a belief that his affliction was not natural, but the “handiwork of my enemies”.

“They just want to destroy themselves, not me. The enemies are eager to know how far. All the while I kept silent, they were confused, wondering if their evil plans had failed,” he added.

Afod called on fellow entertainers, fans, and the Nigerian public to provide both financial assistance and moral support to help the ailing musician continue his fight for survival.

“This is Daddy Fresh. If you know him. You will know what I am talking about. Very handsome. Lovely voice. This man was a fantastic music artist,” the filmmaker said.

“He has been down with sickness for over three years. I just heard about it, and I decided to see him in the hospital. He said a lot of things, and he was suspecting different kinds of people and areas that the sickness may have erupted from, but I pray he recovers and gets well soon.

“This is not someone we need to forget. I am here to solicit and beg the world, Nigeria as a whole, and the entertainment industry as a whole. We need your support. Nigerians, we need your support. Entertainers, the music industry, I am calling you people out. Please. Let’s keep him alive. I met him in a terrible state.”

Daddy Fresh is a veteran Nigerian reggae singer from Abia state. He was born in Lagos and started his musical career in the mid-1980s. He was the founding member of the group ‘DE Pretty Busy Boys’, which comprised Daddy Showkey, Cashman Davies and Sexy Pretty.
