Concerns Citizen Urges Tinubu to Retain Defence Minister Matawalle

The concerned citizens of six geopolitical zone has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to retain the current Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, amidst growing speculation of a potential cabinet reshuffle.

In a statement signed by the group’s National Coordinator, Abubakar Mansur, and shared with journalists in Abuja, the appeal highlighted Matawalle’s remarkable contributions to improving Nigeria’s security, particularly in the northern region, which has been plagued by insurgency and instability for years.

The group praised Matawalle for his proactive efforts in enhancing the country’s defence architecture, a feat they claim past administrations struggled to achieve.

“We must acknowledge the commendable efforts of esteemed public servants like Minister Matawalle, whose dedication to fortifying the nation’s security has brought about significant improvements,” Mansur stated.

The appeal comes at a time when the government is poised to review the performance of its ministers and consider reshuffling key positions.

Thr group emphasized that under Matawalle’s leadership, Nigeria’s security situation has seen tangible improvements. Mansur pointed out that the country is now “in safer hands” compared to the state of insecurity four to six years ago.

The group also warned against politicizing Nigeria’s security progress, noting that the fight against insurgency requires sustained commitment and should not be undermined by political manoeuvres.

“What he is doing is not child’s play. He means business, and we are seeing the results,” Mansur added, underscoring the Minister’s dedication to his role in the defence ministry.

As Nigeria continues to confront various security challenges, especially in the northern region, the concerns citizens believe that retaining experienced and effective leadership like Matawalle is crucial for maintaining stability and ensuring long-term success in the fight against insecurity.
