The Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI) has called on Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last election, to consolidate his political momentum by aligning with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and engaging in strategic discussions with its leadership.
In a statement issued on Friday, the group’s Director of Strategic Communication,Dr AbdulRazak Ahmed emphasized that Obi has a unique opportunity to redefine his political trajectory and play a central role in shaping Nigeria’s future.
The statement contrasted Obi’s approach with that of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who, according to the group, has lost focus and is struggling to exert influence from the sidelines.
The DWI praised Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed’s advocacy for unity and inclusive politics, highlighting the importance of mutual respect and collective responsibility in addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
“As our nation grapples with complex issues, leaders must recognize that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity and the capacity of its people to unite for a common purpose,” the statement read.
The group commended Obi’s recent engagement with Governor Mohammed and the PDP, expressing optimism about the potential impact of their collaboration.
“We look forward to seeing how this partnership unfolds and contributes to the greater good of Nigeria.
“We urge all political leaders to embrace dialogue, foster inclusivity, and work together towards national progress,” the statement said
